How to Use Compression Gear to Get the Most out of Your Training

The Warm Up—April 12, 2019

The Warm Up reports on ways to use compression gear to get the most out of your training routine.

Jamie Osmak, CSCS, USATF, CGFI-1, sports performance at HSS highlighted the benefits of compression, which encourages movement of blood through tissue to prevent pooling in extremities. Osmak explained, "Poorly circulated blood can cause fatigue, swelling and decreased performance." Osmak added that compression gear can help with proprioception — that is, your awareness of your body in space. This is useful if you’re rehabbing an injury and need to rebuild some neuronal connection; having the extra feedback from the gear can help keep muscles on target and your joints nicely aligned.
